Natural Madagascar Wild Silk Basket

Baskets that shimmer. These are made from undyed Ceranchia wild silk — a moth species found only in Madagascar — which has a natural golden sheen and a texture unlike anything woven. They hold keys, fruit, remote controls or nothing at all, and they look considered doing it.

The cocoons are sustainably harvested, steamed flat and hand-stitched together, then lined with a good cotton canvas so the basket holds its shape and takes some weight.

Four sizes, from a small desk bowl up to something you could keep a plant in.

Materials

Undyed Ceranchia wild silk cocoons, lined in cotton canvas.

Sizing

Diameter by height — small 4 by 5 in, medium 6 by 7 in, large 8 by 10 in, x-large 10 by 12 in.

Care

Spot clean with cool or warm water, air dry, steam iron if you want to.

Hand-crafted from start to finish by artisans in northeastern Madagascar.

Each basket is stitched by hand from individually harvested cocoons, so size and colouration vary from the photographs.
