Our Standards
Many people want to shop better but don’t know where to start. Words like “sustainable,” “natural,” and “clean” are printed on almost everything, and they rarely tell you what’s actually inside.
Meanwhile, the details that matter stay out of sight. Synthetic fabrics shed microplastics with every wash. Conventional cotton is often grown with hazardous pesticides. A single word, “fragrance,” can hide a long list of undisclosed ingredients.
LOAM does the weeding for you. We look past the labels to the materials, ingredients, and practices behind every product, so finding what truly meets a high standard no longer takes hours of research.
How We Choose
Before a product joins LOAM, we look at what it’s made of, where those materials and ingredients come from, how it’s made, how it’s packaged, and how well it’s made to last. We partner directly with the brands and makers who create our products.
We prioritize organic and regenerative materials, natural fibers, plant dyes, high-quality organic ingredients, and plastic-free alternatives.
Wardrobe
We carry clothing made from natural fibers like organic cotton, linen, hemp, wool, and silk. For cotton, we look for organic or regenerative cotton, or U.S.-grown cotton raised without pesticides and made to high ethical standards.
We also look at how each piece is colored, favoring plant dyes, low-impact dyes, and non-toxic dyes.
Brands built on polyester don’t fit LOAM, and that includes recycled polyester, which still sheds microplastics with every wash. Where a small amount of stretch fiber is needed for fit or function, such as in activewear or underwear, we accept it and list it on the product page.
For jewelry, we favor pieces made from recycled metals, such as recycled gold and sterling silver, and gemstones that are ethically sourced. Many are handmade by small studios and independent artisans.
Beauty & Wellness
We look for skincare, body care, and makeup made with high-quality organic and natural ingredients. We don’t carry beauty products with petroleum-derived ingredients, synthetic dyes, or undisclosed “fragrance.”
Some gentle ingredients that are common in natural beauty, such as food-grade preservatives, are accepted where they keep a product safe and stable. Every product lists its full ingredients, not just the highlights.
Living
For the home, kitchen, and pantry, we look for natural materials like wood, linen, organic cotton, glass, stainless steel, cast iron, ceramic, and stone, and pantry goods made with organic and natural ingredients.
For furniture, we look closely at the glues and finishes used and at how sustainably each piece is manufactured, favoring non-toxic glues and responsible production.
We don’t carry plastic kitchenware, melamine, or cookware with nonstick coatings made from PTFE (often sold as Teflon) or other PFAS chemicals.
Children
Children’s clothing follows our wardrobe standards. Toys are made from natural materials like wood, natural rubber, organic cotton, and wool, and we look at what their dyes and paints are made from, favoring plant-based and non-toxic colors. For babies, we look closely at everything that touches their skin or ends up in their mouths.
Packaging
Packaging varies by brand. We favor plastic-free packaging such as glass, paper tubes, and compostable materials, as well as recycled plastics, and some products may still arrive with plastic.
LOAM Approved
You’ll see LOAM Approved values on our product pages. Each one is a claim we stand behind, applied only where it truly fits.
