Natural Madagascar Silk Basket - Striped

The striped version of the silk basket, and the stripe is not dyed — it is two different species of silk sitting side by side. The white is cultivated mulberry silk, the tan is wild Ceranchia, a moth found only in Madagascar. Nothing was coloured to achieve it.

The cocoons are harvested, steamed flat and hand-stitched together, then lined with a good cotton canvas so the basket holds its shape. Four sizes, from a small desk bowl up to something that will take a plant.

Materials

Undyed cultivated mulberry silk and undyed Ceranchia wild silk cocoons, lined in cotton canvas.

Sizing

Diameter by height — small 4 by 5 in, medium 6 by 7 in, large 8 by 10 in, x-large 10 by 12 in.

Care

Spot clean with cool or warm water, air dry, steam iron if you want to.

Hand-crafted from start to finish by artisans in northeastern Madagascar.

Each basket is stitched by hand from individually harvested cocoons, so size and colouration vary from the photographs.
