The Original Sunrise Alarm Clock

A sunrise alarm clock with a hand-carved sphere on a solid wood base. The light comes up gradually over the half hour before your alarm, and if you are still asleep when it reaches the set time, birdsong and a flowing river fade in rather than a buzzer. Tap the wood base to snooze for nine minutes, with the light left on.

No app, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, which is the point of it — nothing to check before bed and nothing to reach for first thing. The clock face has four brightness settings including off, and switches between 12 and 24 hour time. The length of the sunrise, the sound and the volume are fixed. It plugs in, and three AAA batteries, not included, hold the settings if the power drops, though the light itself only runs on mains.

Pink Himalayan salt gives a soft amber glow. White Himalayan salt is brighter and more direct. Spanish alabaster marble is close to the white salt in brightness, with natural veining, on a walnut base, limited to 250 pieces and supplied with a numbered card signed by founder Emily Byrne.

Solid beech or walnut base with a hand-carved Himalayan salt or Spanish alabaster marble sphere. The LED is rated for 10 to 17 years and is not designed to be replaced.

Care

Himalayan salt draws moisture out of the air and can sweat in a humid room. Wipe the sphere and the base with a damp cloth, check it monthly, and keep it somewhere air-conditioned if your rooms run damp.
